Spravato (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray used for the treatment of depression, specifically treatment-resistant depression (TRD) in adults. Treatment-resistant depression is a form of major depressive disorder (MDD) where patients have not responded adequately to at least two different antidepressant treatments. Spravato is typically used in conjunction with an oral antidepressant.
Additionally, Spravato is also approved for use in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) who have acute suicidal ideation or behavior. It works differently from other antidepressants by targeting the NMDA receptor in the brain, which can help to relieve depressive symptoms more rapidly.
