Steven Scott Mays, MD | Tulsa Hills

For more than 40 years, Dr. Steven Scott Mays has dedicated his life to caring for families and building meaningful relationships with his patients. A board-certified family medicine physician, Dr. Mays believes the foundation of great healthcare starts with listening carefully, understanding each patient’s story, and treating every person with compassion and respect.

Dr. Mays attended Abilene Christian University in 1978 before earning his medical degree in Houston, Texas. He completed his residency training at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and has spent decades serving patients through family medicine with special interests in ADD management and testosterone therapy.

Originally from Lake Jackson, Dr. Mays was deeply influenced by his father, a small-town physician who served in an African hospital before passing away at the young age of 42. That legacy of service continues to shape Dr. Mays’ heart for medicine today. As he often says, “You can take the 8-year-old kid out of Africa, but you cannot take Africa out of the kid.”

Faith, family, and service are central to Dr. Mays’ life and practice. Alongside his wife, Dr. Cheri Mays, he has built a family-centered practice rooted in following Jesus and sharing His love with patients through compassionate care. Together, they have been married for nearly 49 years and are proud parents to Aaron and Lauren, and grandparents to their beloved granddaughter, Beatrix.

Outside the office, Dr. Mays enjoys golf, yard planting, teaching children’s Sunday school, relaxing with his wife, and spending time with his family and granddaughter.

Patients appreciate Dr. Mays not only for his decades of medical experience, but also for the genuine relationships he builds and the time he takes to truly hear and care for the people he serves.
